New York Gallery Shows: Holiday Edition
Pat Place, “The End, 1981 – Infinity,” at Jane Kim / Thrust Projects, December 11, 2008 – January 11, 2009
The multi-talented Pat Place is probably best known as the guitarist of for the punk bands the Contortions and the Bush Tetras and as a regular in Vivienne Dick’s movies, but this month presents an opportunity to see some of her artwork, in a show whose political tenor is all the more obvious in our present circumstances. For her project "The End," Place has been photographing those words from the end credits of movies shown on television since 1981. Presented in winter 2008, they seem full of contemporary relevance: The end of the Bush nightmare? The end of economics as we know them? That’s up to you. Regardless, it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to invite a new audience to see the work of one of New York City’s key underground figures.
